July 13 to July 22, 2020 | Keio University | Hiyoshi, Yokohama

University of Bamberg

ATTENTION: SICSS-Tokyo has been postponed until 2021 due to COVID-19.

From July 13 to July 22 2020, Keio University Hiyoshi Campus will host a partner event for the Summer Institute in Computational Social Science (SICSS-Tokyo). The purpose of SICSS-Tokyo is to bring together interested young researchers and to bulid and expand the network of computational social scientists in Japan. The Summer Institute is for both social scientists (broadly conceived) and data scientists (broadly conceived). (The schedule and location have been changed as above.)

The instructional program will involve lectures, group problem sets, and participant-led research projects. There will also be outside speakers who conduct computational social science research in a variety of settings. Topics covered include text as data, website scraping, online experiments, non-probability sampling, mass collaboration, and ethics. There will be ample opportunities for participants to discuss their ideas and research with the organizers, other participants, and visiting speakers in collaboration with the other SICSS sites.

We invite applications from Master students, PhD studnets, postdoctoral researchers, corporate researchers who have worked for 10 years or less, and untenured faculty within 5 years of their PhD. Participants are expected to fully attend and participate in the entire 10-day program including Saturday and Sanday (July 18 and 19). There is no cost for participating in the Summer Institute. We will cover most lunch expenses during the program. We won’t cover the travel and accomodation expenses of participants for this site. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and fields of study.

Please click the “Apply” button if you are interested. Application materials are due Friday, March 6, 2020.
