SICSS-Covenant

June 19 to June 29, 2022 | Covenant University, Ogun State, Nigeria

Travel

SICSS-Covenant will cover the cost of a return economy-class flight to and from Covenant University for international participants. Due to funding limitations, we can only provide travel assistance up to a fixed cap for participants coming from other African countries. We are not able to reimburse participants for local transportation costs, including transport from participants’ homes to the airport, COVID-19 test costs or others. Accepted participants are encouraged to search for additional funding to cover other travel-associated costs.

Accommodation & Meals

All accepted participants will be accommodated at one of the Postgraduate halls of residence at Covenant University. Meals (lunch+dinner) for all participants will also be served during the institute.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols

All participants should be vaccinated against COVID-19. Participants will be required to wear nose masks during the institute. Additionally, all measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19 will be fully adhered to during the institute.

Inquiries can be sent to cepder.sicss@covenantuniversity.edu.ng

Travel Frequently Asked Questions

When should I plan to arrive and depart?

You should plan to arrive at Covenant University in time for a 6 pm dinner on Sunday, June 19. An unconditional offer to attend the summer institute will be sent to all accepted participants once we can certify your proficiency in R programming by May 31, 2022. We will have a going-away dinner on Wednesday, June 29, that will run until late in the evening, so you should plan to leave on Thursday, June 30.

What is included in the travel grant package for international participants?

All accepted participants will have their flight cost reimbursed on arrival at Covenant University. We will review your progress on the coding bootcamp and let you know if you should proceed with the booking by May 31, 2022.

What if I purchase my ticket and my plans change?

You are welcome to change your flight, but we cannot reimburse change fees. Also, we will not be able to reimburse your flight costs if you are no longer able to attend the institute.

What other costs am I likely to incur?

In addition to the cost of local travel, participants would be expected to pay the cost of their COVID-19 tests both in Nigeria and at their country of origin.

Is it possible to get reimbursed for the cost of travel if I’m planning to drive?

No. Unfortunately, we will only reimburse international flight costs.

If I fly and then take a cab, can you reimburse me for both?

No. We are not able to reimburse travel between your home and the airport (or train station) or between the airport (or train station) and campus.
