From August 10–21, 2026, Escuela IDAES will host the Summer Institute in Computational Social Science, to be held in the National University of San Martín, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The factor~data lab team will be in charge of the event. The purpose of the Summer Institute is to bring together graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, profesionals and faculty interested in computational social science. The Summer Institute is for both social scientists (broadly conceived) and data scientists (broadly conceived).

The program will provide conceptual and methodological training to study contemporary social phenomena using computational tools and large-scale data. Throughout SICSS, activities will include expert lectures, hands-on workshops, and collaborative work on research projects. It will focus on political polarization in Latin America, the relationship between language, hate speech, and public debate in digital environments, and the role of media and social networks in the formation of information bubbles.

It will also include methodological workshops on survey analysis and experiments, social network analysis, natural language processing (NLP), and the use of large language models (LLMs) for social research, covering prompting techniques, API usage and discussions on bias and human labor in artificial intelligence systems.

The call is aimed at social science researchers interested in incorporating computational tools into the study of social phenomena, including graduate students and early-career professionals working with data or social research across academia, science and technology institutions, the private sector, and civil society. It also welcomes participants from computer science, statistics, and related technical fields who are interested in applying their skills to social research questions. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and fields of study, especially junior faculty from neighboring institutions near National University of San Martín and from all Argentina.

About 15-20 participants will be invited. Most participants are expected to fully attend and participate in the entire 8-day program, but we are open to alternative arrangements for faculty members.

Information about the application process (requirements, materials, deadlines, etc.) will be uploaded shortly.
