The Summer Institute in Computational Social Science (SICSS) is a globally recognized intensive training programme that bridges the world of social inquiry and data-driven analysis. SICSS Nigeria brings together scholars, researchers, and practitioners committed to harnessing the power of computational methods in the service of pressing social questions. This two-week hybrid institute is Funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation.
We particularly encourage applications from:
• Postgraduate students working on socially engaged research problems
• Early-career university faculty seeking to integrate computational methods into their research
• Industry and policy professionals applying data analytics to address real-world social, economic, or governance challenges
• Interdisciplinary scholars at the intersection of culture, technology, and society

Applicants must submit the following documents:
(1) A Curriculum Vitae (CV) (2) A brief statement about why you wish to attend SICSS-Nigeria, Uyo 2026 (Not more than 500 words) (3) Share a writing sample (this could be any piece of writing you own. Published or unpublished) (4) A supporting letter from a supervisor/head of department/line manager/mentor that can attest to applicant’s competence/potential and availability describing:
- Your current research
- Why you want to participate in SICSS-Uyo (Not more than 500 words)
- How participation will aid your future research
- Your experience and/or interest in collaborative research.
- A possible topic, method, or question you would like to focus on for a collaborative project
In order to be guaranteed full consideration, all application materials must be submitted by April 30, 2026. All application materials must be submitted through this Application Link . We will notify applicants solely through e-mail by May 31, 2026, and will ask participants to confirm their participation thereafter.

Yes, but not at the same time. For example, you can apply to SICSS-Nigeria Uyo, and then if you are not accepted you can apply to one of the other locations if it has a later deadline. However, you cannot have an applications under review at two locations simultaneously.
Unfortunately, no. Every year we have more applicants than we can accept, and we would like everyone to have a chance to participate in SICSS once before we allow folks to participate twice.
