UF

From June 15 to June 19, 2026, the Summer Institute in Computational Social Science (SICSS-UF) will be held in person at the University of Florida.

The Summer Institute aims to bring together graduate students and postdoctoral researchers interested in computational social science. The Summer Institute is for both social scientists and data scientists, broadly conceived.

Program Focus

SICSS-UF focuses on the study and application of:

  • Large language models (LLMs)
  • Social media and digital trace data
  • Text and network analysis
  • Multimodal and image analysis
  • Machine learning methods
  • Research ethics and responsible AI

Program Structure

The instructional program includes:

  • Faculty-led lectures
  • Group problem sets
  • Participant-led research projects

Invited speakers will share their experiences conducting computational social science research across academic, industry, and public-interest settings. Participants will have ample opportunities to discuss their ideas and projects with organizers, fellow participants, and visiting speakers throughout the week.

In keeping with our commitment to open and reproducible research, all instructional materials and participant projects produced during the Institute will be released as open source.

Eligibility & Participation

Participation is open to:

  • Advanced undergraduate students
  • Graduate students
  • Postdoctoral researchers

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and disciplines, particularly those from groups currently underrepresented in computational social science.

Approximately 20 participants will be invited. Participants are expected to attend and fully participate in the entire one-week program.
